The Pulse Cinema Awards

Welcome to the Pulse Cinema Awards: Summer 2003.  These special features that will take place every quarter give specific awards to different films that have been reviewed and/or rated on this website.  After  a selection of smaller awards I will give the most significant "Best film reviewed on Pulse Cinema" award, which is pretty self-explanatory.  Enjoy!

Most Thought-provoking film
The Usual Suspects
Why?- The ending really presents something to get your head around.  You'll still be picking up on little things even after several viewings.

Goriest Film
Evil Dead
Why?- There's something about decomposing zombies, thumbs in eye-sockets and hands exploding out of chests that makes Evil Dead a puke-inducing film.

Scariest Film
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Why?- Seriously disturbing.  What other film has decomposing grannies kept in living rooms, double-faced psycho's and zombie-granddads?

Funniest Film
The Frighteners
Why?- Despite not being particularly hilarious, this is the funniest film on here.  Reservoir Dogs and Shallow Grave were just a bit too shocking.

Best Action Film
The Matrix
Why?- One Word.  Bullet-Time. Or is that two words?

Worst Action Film
Universal Soldier
Why?- Robo-van-damme is just as bad as regular-van-damme.   That enough reason for you?  If not then check out essential viewing.

Best Horror Film
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Why?- Because it's a milestone in movie-making history.  Practically every horror movie since then was influenced by it in some way or another.

Worst Horror Film
The Haunting
Why?- Because it's not in the slightest, teeniest bit frightening.

Best Sci-fi Film
Aliens
Why?- Because it's violent, over the top and very exciting.  Whilst The Matrix is technically Sci-fi, I decided that Aliens was more conventional science fiction.

Worst Sci-fi Film
Robocop 2
why?- I almost fell asleep watching it.

Best Thriller
The Usual Suspects
Why?- Because of the ending.

Worst Thriller
Virus
Why?- Event Horizon on a boat, anyone? Hello?? Anyone at all???

Best Psychological Thriller
Stir Of Echoes
Why?- Unlike the Sixth Sense, Stir Of Echoes has a much better pace, and as a result is much more exciting and thrilling.

Worst Psychological Thriller
Nope, no really bad ones yet.

Best Film Of The Seventies
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Why?- Mainly because there aren't many other 1970's films reviewed on Pulse Cinema.

Best Film Of The Eighties
Aliens
why?- Because it's one of the only 2 1980's films to receive five stars yet on Pulse Cinema.

Best Film Of The Early Nineties
Speed
Why?- Because it was original, explosive and very exciting.

Best Film Of The Mid-Nineties
The Usual Suspects
Why?- It's incredibly gripping, very dark and extremely satisfying.  Did I ever mention it had a good ending?

Best Film Of The Late-Nineties
The Matrix
Why?- Dazzling special effects, many discussion issues, and, of course, Bullet Time!

Worst Film
Scream Bloody Murder
Why?- See Essential Viewing
